Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar for coating
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Red gel food coloring
Blue gel food coloring
Instructions
1. Whisk vegetable oil and sugar until smooth then add eggs and vanilla
2. Stir flour baking powder and salt in separate bowl and gradually combine into wet ingredients to form thick dough
3. Divide dough into three bowls leaving one plain coloring one red and one blue
4. Cover and chill all three bowls at least 1 hour
5. Preheat oven to 350F and line baking sheets with parchment
6. Roll 1-inch dough balls combining colors for marbled effect if desired then coat generously in powdered sugar
7. Place on baking sheets with space between and bake 10 to 12 minutes until edges set and tops crackle
8. Cool on sheet 2 to 3 minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool completely
Notes
Use gel food coloring for the boldest color without affecting dough texture.
Never skip chilling the dough for easier rolling and better shape retention.
Red color bakes lighter so color it slightly darker than your target shade.
