How to Freeze Fresh Mint using four easy methods: whole frozen leaves, whole leaves in water ice cubes, chopped mint paste pucks in water, and chopped mint paste pucks in oil. A practical guide to preserving fresh mint for up to 6 months.
Ingredients
Fresh mint as much as needed
Parchment paper
Baking sheet
Freezer-safe containers or small mason jars
Ice cube trays or mini muffin tin
Muffin papers for mini muffin method
Cutting board and knife
Water for water methods
Neutral oil such as avocado oil for oil method
Instructions
1. METHOD 1 WHOLE LEAVES: Rinse pat dry remove from stems spread on parchment-lined tray freeze 2 hours transfer to freezer container
2. METHOD 2 LEAVES IN WATER: Rinse remove from stems place in ice cube tray fill with water freeze 2 to 3 hours transfer frozen cubes to container
3. METHOD 3 CHOPPED IN WATER: Rinse remove from stems chop finely add water teaspoon at a time to form paste spoon into mini muffin tins three-quarters full freeze 2 to 3 hours remove and store in airtight container
4. METHOD 4 IN OIL: Follow method 3 using neutral oil instead of water freeze same way and store in airtight container
5. All methods keep in freezer 3 to 6 months
Notes
Freeze in 1 to 2 tablespoon portions for easiest use.
Label containers with date and method for easy freshness tracking.
Mint may wilt and darken when thawed which is normal and does not affect flavor.
