Ingredients

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 cup beef broth

1 cup chicken broth

1 teaspoon coarse black pepper

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt to taste

2 lbs russet potatoes prepared as creamy mashed potatoes for serving


Instructions

1. Melt butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat until gently bubbling

2. Add flour and whisk constantly for 2 to 3 minutes until light golden and nutty smelling

3. Reduce heat to medium-low and add beef and chicken broth in a slow steady stream while whisking vigorously

4. Add coarse black pepper onion powder and garlic powder and stir to combine

5. Simmer 3 to 5 minutes stirring regularly until gravy coats the back of a spoon

6. Remove from heat taste and adjust salt

7. Pour into warmed gravy boat and ladle generously over creamy mashed potatoes
