Description
Soft puffy and festively colorful 4th of July Cookies made with a vanilla cake mix base, Oreo cookie chunks, red white and blue M&Ms, and patriotic star sprinkles. The perfect easy Independence Day dessert.
Ingredients
1 package 15.25 oz vanilla white cake mix dry only
8 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
4 oz cream cheese softened
1 large egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 cups Oreo cookie chunks from about 14 cookies
3/4 cup red white and blue M&Ms divided
1/2 cup red white and blue star sprinkles divided
Instructions
1. Mix dry cake mix softened butter cream cheese egg and vanilla until soft dough forms
2. Gently fold in Oreo chunks 1/2 cup M&Ms and 1/4 cup sprinkles without overmixing
3. Cover and refrigerate dough for at least 60 minutes
4. Preheat oven to 350F (175C)
5. Scoop dough into 24 even balls with a 2-tablespoon cookie scoop
6. Press remaining M&Ms and sprinkles onto tops of dough balls
7. Bake for 10 minutes until just set
8. Cool on hot pan 2 minutes then transfer to parchment to cool completely
Notes
Do not overmix once Oreos are added to prevent muddy dough.
Refrigeration step is essential for thick puffy cookies.
Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
