- 1 onion, chopped

- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 4 cups vegetable broth (or chicken broth)
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons cold butter, cut into cubes
- 3/4 cup milk
Instructions
- In a large pot, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, and sugar. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in butter until crumbly.
- Add milk until just combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough into simmering soup.
- Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until dumplings are cooked through.
- Stir in heavy cream (optional). Serve hot.
