  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold butter, cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until softened.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, and sugar. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer.
  3. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  5. Add milk until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough into simmering soup.
  7. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until dumplings are cooked through.
  8. Stir in heavy cream (optional). Serve hot.
