Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (105 degrees F to 115 degrees F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for greasing
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
- Your favorite toppings (pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, peppers, olives, etc.)
Instructions
- 1. Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the warm water and olive oil and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- 2. Let the dough rise: Lightly grease a large bowl with olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 3. Make the sauce: Heat olive oil in a saucepan. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
- 4. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (232 degrees C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
- 5. Shape the dough: Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough in half and roll out each portion.
- 6. Assemble the pizza: Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and top with your favorite toppings.
- 7. Bake the pizza for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 8. Cool slightly and serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
